Cupping

Cupping

Cupping involves placing glass, bamboo or plastic jars on the skin and creating a vacuum by suctioning out the air. The underlying tissue is raised, or sucked, partway into the cup. The purpose of cupping is to increase circulation and help relieve pain and remove “heat” and pull out toxins that linger in the body’s tissue.  Instead of applying downward pressure to create blood flow and room within the tissue, cupping uses pressure to pull up on the tissue to create the same effect. For most patients, this is a particularly relaxing and relieving sensation. Once suctioned, the cups are generally left in place for up to twenty minutes and can be moved around with a “gliding” technique to increase more blood flow and healing to a particular area.  Clients have been found to be very thirsty after the treatment.
